Traditionally, glaucoma monitoring has been carried out in hospital eye departments, but more of this care is now moving back into the community.
Jacqueline was selected, as part of a pilot project, to provide glaucoma monitoring and treatment here in the practice — which has proven much more convenient and accessible for patients.
Are you at risk?
Glaucoma often has no symptoms in its early stages, which is why regular eye examinations matter. You're entitled to a free NHS eye examination every year if you have glaucoma, or if you're 40 or over and a parent, brother, sister, son or daughter has it.
We monitor glaucoma with the same equipment used in hospital eye clinics — the ZEISS Humphrey Field Analyzer for visual fields and Topcon Maestro OCT to measure the optic nerve. Our Enhanced Sight Test includes an OCT scan, which can help detect early signs of glaucoma.
