Driving lenses · ZEISS DriveSafe

See the road clearly, day and night.

Everyday glasses designed with driving in mind: less glare from headlights, better vision in low light and easier switching between road, dashboard and mirrors.

Why driving is different

Driving asks a lot of your eyes.

Dark winter mornings, wet roads, oncoming headlights, sudden changes from bright sunshine to shadow: driving puts your vision under more pressure than almost anything else you do.

At the same time, your eyes are constantly switching focus, from the road far ahead to the dashboard and mirrors, and back again, in a split second.

Ordinary lenses aren't designed for this. ZEISS DriveSafe lenses are. They're designed for driving, yet comfortable enough to wear all day, so most people choose them as their everyday glasses.

The three driving zonesA driver's view: the road ahead through the windscreen (distance), the mirrors and dashboard (intermediate), and a phone or map (near). ROAD · DISTANCE MIRRORS DASHBOARD · INTERMEDIATE NEAR Your eyes switch between all three, constantly
What makes DriveSafe different

Three ZEISS technologies, one lens.

Every clear ZEISS DriveSafe lens combines a special glare-reducing coating, a design that works with your pupils in low light, and viewing zones shaped around the way you drive.

Less glare

DuraVision DriveSafe coating

An anti-reflection coating that reflects away part of the light responsible for glare from oncoming headlights, street lights and wet roads. ZEISS reports up to 64% less perceived glare.

Low light

Luminance Design Technology

Your pupils open wider in the dark and in poor weather. DriveSafe lenses are designed around your pupil size in low light, for clearer vision at dusk, at night and in the rain.

Road, dash & mirrors

Optimised viewing zones

In DriveSafe varifocals, the distance and intermediate zones are enlarged, so the road, dashboard and mirrors are all clear with less head movement.

The DriveSafe range

The right DriveSafe for you.

We'll recommend the right lens at your eye examination, based on your prescription, your eyes and how much you drive.

Single vision

ZEISS DriveSafe Single Vision

For one prescription, usually distance. Ideal if you only need glasses for seeing further away, or wear them all day.

Varifocal

ZEISS DriveSafe Progressive

A varifocal for drivers. ZEISS states the intermediate zone is up to 43% larger, and the distance zone up to 14% larger, than in its premium varifocals.

Good to know

Driving and your eyesight.

  • The legal standard: every driver in the UK must be able to read a car number plate from 20 metres, with glasses or contact lenses if needed.
  • Regular eye tests: your sight can change gradually without you noticing. In Scotland, NHS eye examinations are free, and we recommend one at least every two years.
  • Sunglasses for driving: DriveSafe is also available as prescription sunglasses, with tints and polarised options for bright, low sun. Tinted lenses should never be worn for driving at night.
  • Struggling at night? Ask us about ZEISS i.Scription, which fine-tunes your prescription to your eye's individual profile for better vision in low light.
